FTPd is an FTP and Gopher server for Macintosh, provided free of charge to WebSTAR and ListSTAR customers on the StarNine Internet Publisher CD. (Written by Peter Lewis, FTPd is widely available as shareware).

FTP and Gopher file services are frequently used in conjunction with Web sites to provide simple file transfer capabilities. Most Web browsers, including Netscape Navigator, handle FTP and Gopher file transfers transparently. Usually, the Web user is unaware that the backend server is using FTP to transfer files instead of the Web protocol HTTP.
FTP can also be used to remotely update the files on your WebSTAR server from anywhere on the Internet.
FTPd is compatible with most FTP, gopher, and Web clients.
Known Problems
The one Applescript dictionary entry supported by FTPd if used, will cause the Macintosh to drop into the Mac Debugger if the Debugger is installed. This is due to a temporary debugging check that apparently has not been removed.
